Few words about the football World Championship
However I like to watch football and I (of course) support the Czech national team very much, I haven't written a line about the championship so far. I do not consider it really useful to expose my joy after successful games and my disappointment after those bad ones at the blog.
This is just one thing, which I was thinking about recently. While asked which teams do I support now after the Czech republic was eliminated, I have answered "Germany, England and Sweden". My friends looked at me in a way, how they would probably look at something smelly that their cat has left in their bed.
Their most favourite team is Brazil and generally if I ask people about their favourite teams, they mention teams like Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Spain... but why???
These teams are said to play beautiful technical football. Yes, it is true that they have players, who are able to do incredible things with the ball and once they succeed in what they want to do, it is really nice to watch it. Therefore it is nice to see the game highlights. But could these teams win just thanks to this? The other teams also have skilled players, just look at Wayne Rooney, what he is able to do with the ball at a high speed...
I was really disgusted from the Netherlands-Portugal game. The Dutch guys could hardly do anything with the game in the second half because most of the time there was some Portuguese player lying on the grass. Sorry, but this is not what I am interested in watching. It is much nicer to watch the forcible football played for example by Germans. And anyway, I have seen one game of the German team so far, the result was 4:2 and there were really nice goals.
It would be unfair to compare all of the southern teams to what Portugal has shown, especially Brazil is definitely a great team. But simply my sympathies go to Germany and England.
