Benátská noc festival
On Friday 27th of June I visited the music festival Benátská Noc. The reason I did that this was the last chance to see a live gig of one of my most favourite bands The Gathering (NL). I will devote a special post to this, here I just want to summarize my impression from the festival as a whole.
It was the first festival like this in my life and frankly said I found out that festivals are definitely not my cup of tea:) Most probably because they are slightly in contradiction with my perception of music. I like to enjoy music to 100%, immerse my soul in it. And that requires some conditions, which I would call "exclusive" and which definitely can't be met at such event like this. I mean the bands here are rotating quite fast, even the main headliners hardly get more than 1 hour for their performance. One can hardly know majority of the bands, and how many bands do the people know really thoroughly? Just very few. This of course influences the atmophere of the concert, there is an enormous difference between a gig, where people are really in a deeper contact with the music and a gig where people just come randomly to see, what it's gonna be like.
I am not objecting in anyway against festivals, I can imagine that many people enjoy it going there with their friends, having fun and in the meantime listen to few bands. I have just realized that I would not be able to enjoy this in such way, for me the music is too precious and too many things are disturbing me here:)

I'm pretty much the same in the opinon with the so called "generalistic festivals" where you mix the genres and bands.
But I wouldn't say that it's true for all festivals ... it's more true for commercial summer festivals.
I've been to many blues or jazz festivals that I really enjoyed, as if you have certain similarity in style or type of music, you sort of had those "exclusive" conditions to enjoy the music, you have different type of audience, etc.
Yes, I think that genre specific festivals must be definitely different. This was mainly about the typical summer festivals which include several big stages, hot dog stands at each corner, tents build at the most incredible places, mobs of drunk weirdos all around and so:)))
